Traveling back roads looking for Live Music? Dance? Food? Micro Brew? Rest?  The Purple Fiddle, located in the authentically historic town of Thomas, WV, hands down fulfills it all.  A small example for instance is the June 7th return of Grand Ole Opry and Bonnaroo veterans Black Lillies.  John Bright, founder and owner, just gets it, so deeply gets it: how to make people feel welcomed and interested and well fed and entertained.

From the stage, musicians peer out on a mix of fans-blue hair and Mohawks, tykes in SpongeBob pajamas, teens in AC/DC shirts, and D.C. politicos with ties slung loosely around their necks.  The crowd is as diverse as a swarm of new drivers at the DMV.  Common among all in the mixing bowl is the desire for time to s-l-o-w down, and for conversation to merge with a most unlikely compatriot, the “fiddle” does for humanity what man cannot.   Cheers!  Brian

Change is not always welcome to the well-grounded personality that makes Tucker County one of a kind.  Blackwater Falls State Park has taken a well calculated risk and is putting their best foot forward in the pursuit of change in their culinary offerings.

The Smokehouse At Blackwater Falls has replaced what was previously known as Blackwater Falls Lodge Restaurant.  An entire makeover at The Smokehouse At Blackwater Falls would not be complete without their new chef, Brandon Hallen.  Chef Hallen, who is originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia and now resides with his family in Davis, WV has been in the kitchen over 8 years mastering skills that will make your mouth drool!

I recently stopped by The Smokehouse for a “back of the house” tour, and hear from Chef Hallen himself on what you can expect while dining at Blackwater Falls State Park's newest offering.  The breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu has been completely revamped to offer diversity for all palettes.  American cuisine with an emphasis on BBQ.  Saturday and Sunday breakfast buffet even received a makeover, which includes a personal favorite, lox and bagels!

Most importantly, I was interested in the smoker purchased and the well-kept smokehouse secrets Chef Hallen and his staff have put in motion.  Without boring you with details, the Alto-Shaam smoker is top notch!  Apple and cherry wood is used to create the Carolina style BBQ.  All items on the menu are made from scratch, even the baked beans are made in the smoker for an authentic flavor.

Change was not limited to a new chef and menu.  The dining room has seen a significant overhaul, making for a relaxed environment filled with soft music and panoramic views on the edge of Blackwater Canyon.  Tucker County is full of unique dining opportunities. The Smokehouse At Blackwater Canyon is certainly not one to miss!

Bob Nunnink, Marketing and Domestic Sales director for Stan’s No Tubes, brings his entourage consisting of Drew Hanna, Product Manager, and Jimbo Malta, product mechanic, to their rented villa atop Canaan Heights.   The only thing more important than these 3 fellows is the fleet of every wheel set Stan’s No Tubes produces mounted with fresh tires from Kenda.

Stan’s No Tubes is here to photograph the wheel line up for their upcoming catalog, print advertisement, and web site.  In addition, Zoic clothing and Lazer Helmets provided full “kits” for all the riders to wear, which will be used in their upcoming advertisements featuring “life style” shots.  The coolest twist for the photo shoot is that Stan’s No Tubes is also launching an entirely new product line of rims and hubs, which is currently top secret until July.  Yes, we got to ride them, and the product is sweet!
