We will watch the movie and read the book; participate in a scavenger hunt, and go on a tree identification walk to teach you how to identify trees. Birds of Canaan Valley: Spring 2009 Walks
Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center
Date: May 16th begins at 7am
They (birds) are active in our woods, fields and wetlands. Birds are flying from their winter home to their summer residence, where they begin mating and preparing to raise young. Join volunteer Casey Rucker for a spring bird walk. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking boots and shoes. Bring binoculars, or use a pair of ours. Carry water if desired. Migration brings us birds that we don't find here otehr times of the year. Come, learn about them. The program is free and will last about 2-3 hours. It is co-sponsored by the Refuge and the Friends of the 500th.

Timberline Four Seasons Resort

This weekend marks the beginning of Timberline Four Seasons Resort's summer season. The scenic chairlift rides will be operational every Saturday and Sunday and through Monday of this holiday weekend. Timberline Stables and Timberline's Bike Shop will be open daily for trail rides and bike rentals. Volley tournaments begin this weekend too.
Saturday, May 23rd features the Racefest IX at Timberline. This increasingly popular bi-annual event is a Paul Koontz production and features motor bike races and ATV races. The event begins Friday, May 22nd evening at 8pm with live music. The races take place all day Saturday along with food and music. 30th Annual Challenge in the Hills

Tucker County 4-Wheelers, Inc. presents the 30th Annual Challenge in the Hills "Tucker County Style". Saturday's competition includes flat drags, fastest time 4-wheel drive, street stock class and women's competition featuring Debit Lambert, Memorial Eliminater. Sunday's competition includes, mud pit (fastest time) and junior dragsters. Entry Fee is $20 per event. Pre-registered Camping Gate Opens at 8am Friday.
