Blackwater Canyon Bike Ride
sponsored by the Highlands Trail Foundation

Riders will depart from The Purple Fiddle at 1:00pm. Participants will not only enjoy the beauty of the canyon and the river views of the Hendricks to Bretz section of the Allegheny Highlands Trail, but will also learn about railroad history and future plans for AHT development. All downhill, the 12.5-mile ride will take approximately three hours including rest stops and exploration of historic sites. The ride is appropriate for all skill levels, but generally not recommended for children under 10. A parent or guardian must accompany children under 18. Helmets are required for all participants, who should carry plenty of water and dress for the weather. Mountain bikes or comfort bicycles are recommended for the packed dirt and gravel trail surface, but hybrid or cross bikes are also suitable. Meet the naturalist in the Lodge Lobby for a walk along the Elakala trail. This trail winds along the canyons rim over a section of a creek waterfall and by some huge sandstone rock formations. Some steps, one mile, about one hour. For more information call 304-259-5216.

Blackwater Falls State Park
Join us for a walk along the Yellow Birch Trail (Meet at the Gentle Trail Parking area). Walk beneath the canopy of red spruce and eastern hemlock as we explore the northern coniferous forest of Blackwater Falls. Also we will see a mountain bog where wild cranberries grow. Along the way we may see and hear signs of red squirrels, black-capped chickadees, golden-crowned kinglets and other wildlife. Walk one mile. For more information, call 304-259-5216.
