2010 Calendar of Events
Canaan Valley, Blackwater Falls, Tucker County
Winter, spring, summer, fall ... This is a place where people gather to welcome the arrival of every season, our heritage and culture, and the bounty that we enjoy. We rejoice in our shared experiences with grand parades, fireworks, chili cook-offs, mountain bike and ski races, arts and music festivals, golf tourneys, great food, and good friends ... everybody is invited!


Pickin' in Parsons
August 5-7
A 3-day celebration of Bluegrass and hillbilly music held at Five River Campground. Click here for more information.


Annual Summer Frontier Weekend
August 6-7
Go back in time (circa 1835) for a weekend in the old West with authentic cow camp and chuck wagon complete with all the appropriate gear. Witness a live shoot out on horse back just behind Timberline Ski Lodge! Also enjoy trail rides, barbeque, square dancing on the deck and old western and mountain music live by the Saddle Tramps. Sing along with old western classics like “Back in the Saddle Again” or “Tumblin’ Tumbleweeds”! Scenic chairlift rides Saturday and Sunday. Square dancing will be called by Joe of the Saddle Tramps on the deck of the ski lodge. Square dancing instruction will be given for beginners. Wear your western clothes and enjoy the events. Guests are invited to stay without charge for the Tramps’ late uptempo late night party! There is no admission charge for the performances.


Timberline 100 Off-Road ATV/Motorcycle Race
August 13-15
Paul Koontz production with motor bike races and ATV races. There will be special events for all participants and visitors alike including food and entertainment. For complete vacation planning and reservations call (304)866-4801. The celebration begins Friday night with live dancing music at Timber’s Pub and barbeque ribs at the Fireside Grill. The ATV races will take place all day Saturday, August 14th and the motor bike 2 wheel races will be held on Sunday, August 15th. Plan to stay all weekend at the new upscale Timberline Resort Hotel and Suites onsite which is located at race center and enjoy the entertainment and the excitement of the races within a short walking distance to the new hotel. Smokin' in the Valley BBQ Cook-off and 7th Annual Regional Chili Cook-off

Join us for our annual Smokin' in the Valley Chili Cook-off Sanctioned by the International Chili Society. The cookoff will begin at 10:15 am, following a 9:30 am cook's meeting. The awards ceremony will take place around 4pm. Cash prizes awarded.

Bring on the HEAT - BBQ Cook-off will offer a packed day of cooking and tasting. Artist and crafters will display their wares throughout the day. Lunch to be served in the pavilion. Entertainment tbd.

2nd Annual Timberline Motorcycle Rally
August 26-29
This event promises to be the region’s fastest growing motorcycle rally. The rally will include motorcycle rides into The Allegheny Mountains and its Eastern Continental Divide, poker runs, night parties with live biker bands (e.g. Thunderstruck, Brother Short), DJ/karaoke parties, vendors, a variety of biker games, motorcycle shows, and prizes. Timbers Pub and Fireside Grill are open early until late. Seafood and barbeque rib specials will be served. Join the late night party with dancing under the stars on the ski lodge deck. Scenic chairlift rides to the summit of Herz Mountain, at 4,326 feet elevation, will run all day Saturday and Sunday.


Labor Day Weekend Celebration
September 3-6
There will be live entertainment at 9pm on September 4th and 5th in the Fireside Grill and Timbers Pub. Scenic chairlift will be operational September 4th and 5th 10am until 5pm. Mountain Bike Center and Timberline Stables open daily. There is a full menu in Timberline’s Fireside Grill daily. No cover charge for the live entertainment.


Autumn Color Exploration - Mountain Trail Rides
September 10-12
High altitude mountain trail rides over this portion of West Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains. Horseback enthusiasts ride to the Eastern Continental divide over thousands of acres and mountain terrain. Expect flaming colors of autumn to arrive early at these higher elevations (about 4,000 feet). Timberline stables will be open daily or bring your own horses. There is ample room to park horse trailers on the resort property at the base of the mountain. For riders on Friday and Saturday, Timberline will sponsor live western and country music on the deck of the main lodge in full view of Herz Mountain. Square dancing and dance instruction is scheduled both Friday and Saturday evenings. Barbeque ribs with all the fixings will be served on the deck or inside Timber’s Pub. Guests are encouraged to wear western style dress. Pack lunches can be provided upon request. Timberline’s scenic 1,000 foot vertical chairlift ride to the 4,263 foot elevation will be operational Saturday and Sunday.


Revenge of the Rattlesnake - WVMBA Ultra #5 Championship
Sept. 19
Enjoy Tucker County on two wheels! The 27th annual Revenge of the Rattlesnake Race is possibly the longest running annual mountain bike race in the galaxy, and it's the 4th and final race of the WVMBA Ultra Series. After the race, wash your bike, hang out, eat and drink right behind the bike shop! Click here for more info.


Leaf Peepers Festival
Sept. 24 - 26th
Returning favorites include: Oktoberfest, Appalachian craft & food fair, inflatable rides, Silent Auction, Photo Contest, Duck Race and more.  Details to come.


Run For It
Sept. 25 - 11 a.m.
A 2k walk (1.2 mile) & 5k (3.1 mile) walk and USATF competitive run hosted by Tucker Community Foundation in conjunction with Leaf Peepers Festival. Race starts 11:00 AM at the Davis Fire Hall on Rt. 32 and winds up, down and around town. Geared for all ages and abilities; speed is not required. Wheelchairs, strollers, costumes and well behaved, leashed dogs welcome. Cash awards, entry fees and sponsor donations support a variety of community causes, school activities, civic organizations and charities throughout the region. Sign up now! October Celebration Weekend
October 8-10
This weekend features German food prepared by Chef Peter and music at the timberline Fireside Grill and timbers Pub. A full menu is also available. Live entertainment from 9 pm until 1 am Saturday night. There is no cover charge.
